TGIFF: It's Here! And with a Giveaway!

That's right, TGIFF is here and I'm very excited to be hosting this week!  Welcome Friends, both old an new!  I'm Sarah - when I'm not making quilts or buying way too much pretty fabric, I'm writing, spoiling our neurotic dog CJ, in the kitchen or working on the house with Hubs.  Until recently I worked as a hair stylist, but I left the salon to get things ready for our move back to Charlotte, NC this summer.  Our house needed a few upgrades before we put it on the market and for some crazy reason, we decided to tackle them ourselves.  Also, I spend way too much time on Instagram, so if you're there too, come say hi!

Anyway, enough about me, let's get to the fun stuff.

Last year, I participated in a quilt along hosted by Christa of Christa Quilts!  Actually, I completed tops for three of her QAL's last year, but have only quilted two of them.  The one I'll be sharing today is my String of Pearls QAL quilt.  I had a blast participating and it was fun to follow everyone's progress in the Flickr group.

I really wanted to use Pearl Bracelets for my version of this quilt, like Christa did...However, in a very rare burst of self-control, I refrained from buying a bundle and used what I had in my stash: Remix Ovals along with Dear Stella solids in Charcoal and Gray.  I'm a total sucker for bright colors on a gray background; I love the way the colors POP!

I tried and tried to get a shot of the quilt in full sun and when the wind wasn't blowing, but it just wasn't happening.

The back is a gray tone-on-tone print from a Marcus Brothers collection.  The selvage edge is long gone; and I'm sorry, but I can't remember the name of the collection.

I went with straight line quilting,(which should come as no surprise whatsoever to those of you who've been here a time or two), and used both horizontal and vertical lines.  I wanted to do something different in the colored squares and I played around with a few FMQ designs before deciding to copy borrow the design that Christa used in hers- square sprials.  It just really worked with the grid pattern I used..  If you look closely at the pic directly above, you can see my spirals-  unfortunately, I couldn't get a good shot of them on the front side.  You can see Christa's gorgeous quilting that inspired me in this picture.

I used Aurifil for the piecing and quilting...Lots and lots of Aurifil.    It's been my thread of choice since I first used it a couple of months into my quilting adventures.  Also, my machine is finicky and Aurifil seems to give me less problems than other threads for some reason.

You can find all the details for my String of Ovals quilt here.

So, I promised y'all a giveaway, didn't I?  And guess what- you get to choose your prize!  Just leave a comment below telling me which True Colors design roll you'd like to have:  Heather Bailey, Joel Dewberry, Anna Maria Horner or Jenean Morrison.  If you'd like a bonus entry, leave another comment listing your top 2 favorite designers.

clockwise:  Heather Bailey, Joel Dewberry, Jenean Morrison, Anna Maria Horner

All I ask is that you make sure I have a way to contact you in case you win.  I know all too well that Blogger can be a bit finicky; so, if for some reason you are unable to comment or don't want to leave your email address in the comments (if you're a no-reply blogger) just email me: georgiagirlquilts (at) gmail (dot) com.

This giveaway is open to everyone, domestic & international!  Since it's a holiday weekend here in The States, I'm going to leave the comments open until 8PM Eastern Tuesday evening and will announce the winner Wednesday.

Now, let's get this linky party started! When you link up, please be sure to include a TGIFF button like the one above or a text link back to the party.  Also, please only link up finishes and be sure to visit some of the other posters and share some comment love.  I can't wait to see what everyone has been up to!

  3. I dont have anything to link up this week, but I love your quilt! While I'm sure the pearl bracelets would've been pretty, I really like the fabrics you used!

I dont have (and have never used) any jelly rolls so I would be very happy with any of these choices. They are so bright and beautiful!

  4. Heather Bailey please. I have and love her Lottie Da fabrics and would like to get her true colors line to go with it cause 42 different prints is still not enough.;) Taught my 8 year old grand daughter to quilt using it and had to have more Lottie Da for myself. Just waiting to get some of her true colors so I can start on another quilt. Grannyo bluemoonstencils@yahoo.com
